Gran Tursimo Prologue looks ordinary
April 5th, 2008
It appears as though Playstation is starting ramp up their advertising spend and are heavily promoting the PS3 Gran Tursmo Prologue pack. The thing is, the graphics look extremely ordinary, with a lazy framerate, so-so visuals and so much blurry frame interlacing that it looks like a souped up PS2 game, rather than the greatest graphical racing game of all time. It’s just astounding that Sony is spending a huge amount on media with a lacklustre TVC that does little to convince us that the PS3 is the most technically advanced media centre of it’s generation.
It could be said that I’m not a big fan of the PS3 because of my involvement in revealing the Harvey Norman PS3 Debacle or because I own a X360, Wii, DS and am an Apple fanboy, but truth be told, if I could afford a PS3 I’d own one. There just isn’t a single game/killer app that warrants it’s price and if Sony is attempting to position the Gran Turismo Package for their next marketing offensive, then using sloppy graphic production techniques will not do them any good.
The australian version of the commercial is a cut down version the UK version (embedded below). Though it’s hard to tell due to the flash compression, the lack of quality is still quite evident.
You still don’t know jack

Hot dang i’ve missed this gameshow. It’s still so completely awesome and yet it was ahead of it’s time in 1996, and yet to date, no-one has done anything similar or better!

From outside the workshop, an eerie sound pervaded the autumnal night air. Grasping for a contained thought, the warlock considered eating pine nuts for breakfast instead. Seventeen seconds later the bell rang out and the local villagers came into the town square unaware that tonight would be their last.
Frozen to the spot, spot spotted a spotted spot called spotty. ‘This is odd” she thought ‘I shouldn’t be thinking these thoughts aloud else someone might get hurt!’. But it was too late. For in the courtyard, Diana was preparing the broth that would seal her brothers fate forever. Drip by drop she dropped the drapes into the flop drop of koonratheel. And there it lay in waiting until this fateful day when little jimmy ran out of the forest in search of another spine licker.
Today was the day of Thalmus and tonight, no-one would go home hungry…

I cant believe that I’m remiscing about U2’s Achtung Baby and Nirvana’s Nevermind. I’ve briefly flipped the TV onto Max and i’ve been sucked into a nostaglic trip into 1991. These are albums and songs that i wouldn’t even conceive of playing as they’re out of sight and out of mind. Having been drawn into an episode of Classic Albums: Nirvana Nevermind I was awash with memories of what it was like being a teenager in that time of my life.
I was 17 (or something) and in the last year of High School. There was nothing at university that remotely interested me (except Arts Communications - thank god I didn’t waste my time on that useless certificate), school sucked, i felt estranged from the world and alone, just like every other teenager (though i didn’t know that at the time). I dont know why i’m writing about this, there’s nothing unique that i have to say, but it has confirmed for me something that i’ve always felt about music; that records/albums are better at timestamping the emotional and psychological moments of life, better than a photograph. I used to justify spending my money on albums as they were the milestones of my existence and that I could tell you exactly where I was and what I was thinking at the moment I bought that album.
For some albums that is true, for most, they became a blur of purchases attempting to define my pitiful existence. Now, thanks to bittorrent I can reclaim those memories of my youth. oh denial, ah denial…
The first of something

I made a promise the other day that i would start writing a blog entry every day, regardless of whether i have anything to say or not. I haven’t figured out any kind of editorial style, thought about any specific topics or decided what i want to do with it. As it stands, i’m easily distracted and whilst i made this promise to myself on monday, it’s now friday and i’ve just started. Regardless of my best intentions, I have been procrastinating. That’s the thing about the internet, it’s just so easy to be let down the rabbit whole only to wake up 5 days later and find yourself well off target.
For example, it started with the fact that I have a couple of domains and a couple of blogs and none of them are well utilised or maintained. So my first thought was that i should sit down and work out a way to consolidate my sites so that they’re easier to contain. Right. Sure. Before you know it i’ve bought another three domain names and i’m scrambling to set up the DNS and hosting issues so they have somewhere to reside. Add to the fact that i’ve spread myself even thinner, the domain names i’ve registered are purely driven by ego:
-
www.tietzel.tv (i already have .net)
www.hiredgoon.tv
www.kaintietzel.com
Absolutely and resolutely hubristic choices that serve no real purpose and have wasted the 5 days that i could have spent on my original plan to consolidate all my domains. Let’s face it - i’m an idiot. It’s not that I havent know it for quite some time, i guess theres nothing like three useless domains staring you in the face to make the point moot.
So, post one is done and i can get back to procrastinating.
